Bachlaw Projects based in Aberdeenshire, have developed a crisis care service which provides residential long term, short term or emergency support to young people with challenging behaviour aged 8 to 18, for up to 28 days at the time, when they are struggling the most. This may be a residential placement which meets the needs of the young person whilst a longer term placement is found. They will carry out focused work to restore family relationships and support a move back home or simply to help young people to manage transitions between placements.
Bachlaw Projects believe that this service can be a positive choice for young people who are in crisis as this is an opportunity for learning and change. Individual programmes will be created for each young person which account for their interests and abilities, and which promote skills development and resilience. Programmes may also include a variety of activities which are new to the young person offering the chance for challenge and achievement, such as outdoor pursuits and fishing in our boat – ‘Venture West’ Referrals to this service should be made by local authority social work departments and will be on an emergency basis.
